SITES has a new gadget!

February 13th, 2008 · No Comments

Flip Video CamcorderToday SITES got a Flip Video Camcorder - a super lightweight, easy to use recording device ideal for “shooting video on the go.” The arrival of this new technological toy is a great opportunity to remind you that we have a whole array of equipment available for members of the Department of English and Comparative Literature to use in their research and teaching.

Besides the computers, printers, and scanners available for in-lab use, we have a variety of microphones and podcasting equipment that you can check out, and now our new video recorder! A number of teachers have used our podcasting supplies very successfully in their classrooms, and we encourage you to explore the pedagogical possibilities of new media.

Introducing Openlogue!

January 30th, 2008 · No Comments

Check out the new SITESLab Wiki - Openlogue. Right now it’s pretty bare-bones, but our vision for the Wiki is a clearinghouse of information relevant to graduate students in the Department of English and Comparative Literature. The essence of a wiki is it’s a collaborative document, so we encourage anyone, not just SITES interns, to add and edit pages. In future weeks, look for more information here about how to use and edit the wiki, plus how to do cool things like embed video clips in wiki pages.

Welcome to SITES 2008!

January 14th, 2008 · 4 Comments

With a new year, SITES has a new face on the web. This website will include logistical information about using the lab and its resources, as well as, eventually, commentary from SITES interns and useful links. We just held our Spring 2008 staff meeting, and the SITES crew has exciting plans for this semester. Goals and potential avenues of exploration for this semester include:

  • Making an unofficial departmental wiki
  • Offering workshops, online or in person, on technological topics ranging from Refworks to Blackboard
  • Buying a new stapler!

Thank you for visiting our corner of the web, and if you have any suggestions for what you would like to see SITES offer to the departmental community, please leave a comment here!
